We appreciate and thank you for your interest in joining our volunteer team at MEND. Whether you’re signing up for 2 hours of service or 6 months, you’ll be helping meet the needs of vulnerable San Fernando Valley residents with dignity & respect. We offer many opportunities, including:

  • Packing & distributing groceries to the community
  • Stocking the food warehouse
  • Supporting the monthly Buen Provecho farmers’ market
  • Stuffing envelopes for a big mailing
  • Event registration
  • Distributing backpacks & holiday gifts to delighted children
  • Serving a holiday brunch for older adults or individuals who are homeless; and so much more.

Thank you for whatever small (or big) part you will play as a volunteer at MEND. It tells our community that people care. That you care.

Requirements:

SHORT-TERM VOLUNTEERS making a commitment of 3 months or less are not required to attend an orientation. Depending on the specific area assignment, you may be required to complete a background check.

LONG-TERM VOLUNTEERS serving a period longer than 3 months will complete an orientation & background check. These positions often require in-depth training and/or professional certifications.

GROUP VOLUNTEERS do not require an orientation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I become a MEND volunteer?
  • Select how you would like to engage as a volunteer at MEND by selecting from available opportunities above. Finish your registration by submitting a completed sign up form, taking care to select your area of interest & answer all required questions.
  • After you submit the form, you will receive notification on your volunteer status, as well as regular updates on available orientation dates, activities, events, and other important information.
How do I apply if I am a Court referred volunteer? 
  • We currently are not accepting court referrals.
Is there an age requirement for volunteering at MEND? 
  • Children between the ages of 15-17 must be accompanied by a volunteering adult, parent or guardian on the day of the volunteer event or activity.
  • Children under age 14 are not eligible to volunteer at MEND.
