The lines to receive food continue to grow each week as hundreds of hungry individuals and families struggle to keep food on the table.
Your donation today will ensure our food pantry stays open to provide nutritious foods to those most vulnerable in our community.
Things got very dark for the small family during the pandemic. First Rosa's work hours were reduced, and then she was suddenly let go of her long-term job. "I was looking and looking for another job ... anything."
THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS behind in unpaid rent, Maria was in danger of eviction and homelessness when she came to MEND. She needed help. And what we learned when she finally opened up was heartbreaking.
Roselia cannot believe her providence. At her lowest point she found help. Over and over in our conversation she kept bringing up the extraordinary patience and kindness extended to her at MEND during a time of incredible need.
Rosal
For 15 years, Rosal and her family received services from MEND. “If MEND did not exist, my family on multiple occasions would have gone hungry,” Rosal shares. During their most difficult times, Rosal and her family knew they could always come to MEND for resources and support. “MEND has always been a pillar in the community. Since the beginning it has prioritized caring for people with dignity and care. I am forever grateful for what MEND has done, what MEND continues to do, and the positive impact it has in the Pacoima / San Fernando Valley.”
Become a friend to vulnerable families, the homeless, and struggling seniors today. Your generosity is a precious gift that makes a difference.
MEND serves the poorest families & individuals in the San Fernando Valley; meeting their most immediate basic needs and helping them build resources and skills to address and overcome long-term poverty.
MEND’s Community Nourishment Programs have long been a point of entry for a majority of clients. Clients utilizing the food bank include families struggling to make ends meet, and people who are homeless who—because of few options—sometimes rely on foraging from dumpsters to survive.

Here We Thrive consolidates MEND’s burgeoning intensive case-management services and is our most exciting intervention in the lives of those we serve. With the goal of individual and community resiliency in mind, we are combining the former Family Support Program and Pathways to Wellness and adding a new employment component to better serve the community in one hub. Here We Thrive is staffed with professionals willing and able to support participants through a process of uncovering and overcoming their (in many cases, long-term) challenges.
